One Thing I have Learnt as a Mum…

Is that the battles never ends. The most successful parents are the ones that don’t give up. I have come to realise that there is a lot of work to be done as a parent, every single day of your life. Don’t get me wrong, some battles are optional; but some are not. I have not known my children to brush their teeth without me having to nag at them to do so, but it’s not a battle that I can give up on. I will always have to control the amount of junk food that they eat, this is also not optional, and I will also have to keep serving them healthy meals knowing full well that they will have a strop or a tantrum and point blank refuse to eat them, but still, I must not give up hope that one day they will. There are certain things that they will never give up on too; They will never stop asking me for more junk food. They will never stop asking for me to buy them things when we are shopping (thank goodness for online shopping, that’s all I can say). They have the right to ask… and I have the right to say no. They will always want more screen time and I will always have to control this, probably until they reach adulthood – and possibly even beyond! As they grow older they will request more freedom and it will be up to me to decide how much freedom to grant them.

The point I am trying to make is, as a parent you can never give up. It’s OK to take a break sometimes and it is OK to get things wrong too, but then you need to dust yourself off and get back into the game. Now is the time to teach, love and guide your children.

Now and everyday forever.
